The Season is OVER!

For the last few months, I have been coaching 7th & 8th grade girls basketball for Ashton Ranch Elementary School. It has been a fun season. I had 12 energetic, competetive girls on the team. Our season was like a rollercoaster ride. We would go up and win some games and then go down and lose in double overtime. To our delight, we won the most critical game of the season that pushed us into the playoffs for the district championship. Out of 18 schools in the district, we were in the top 8.

In our first playoff game, we faced the #2 team of the district that had only one loss on their record. We gave them their second loss! In our second playoff game, the girls were having an off night and shot the basketball like they were a bunch of blonds! We lost that game. So last Thursday night, my team played their final game to go for 3rd place in the district. We were again playing another team that only had one loss on their record. They were tough competetion. The girls were on fire that night and we were up by 9 at half time. But for some strange reason, my girls prefer to have nail biting games and allowed the other team to catch up. With only seconds left in the game, my team was only up by one point. Thankfully, the clock ran out and we ended up winning! We took 3rd place overall for the Dysart School District. This is a first in Ashton Ranch Girls Basketball history. They have never had a team place in the final four. It was a great learning experience for me to coach these girls and I had a lot of fun doing it; however, I'm glad it's over and I can be back home more with my family.

Brent's Birthday!

February 26th, 2008, Brent turned 42! Hard to imagine that he is that old!!! He does remind me that I am close behind him in his dust. That's okay, as long as today I'm not 42. Thank goodness he doesn't look and act that old :)

Mitchell, Grant and I, traveled to Chandler to celebrate Brent's birthday with him. We had dinner at PeiWei's, Brent's favorite Asian food restaurant. To our surprise, Grant actually ate some of the food and really likes Mongolian Beef Barbecue. Mitchell, of course, ate anything and everything we put in front of him. It's no wonder he is approaching 6 feet tall so quickly. After dinner, we had cake & presents at Brent's house. He was able to blow out all of the candles on his cake in one try. You know what this means...ALL of his wishes will come true this year!

Pinewood Derby

Grant raced in the Pinewood Derby for the last time as a Cub Scout tonight. This year's car was a curvy blue sports car with a dangerous looking spider on the back. The car was Grantula 99 (rhymes with tarantula, in case you are having trouble pronouncing it). His car took 3rd place for the Weblos Den and yes, there are more than 3 kids in his den! I was the lucky parent to help cut out the car on the scroll saw, Grant picked out the paint colors, and Brent attached the wheels. Grant will be a Boy Scout in March which is why this is his last race. Congratulations Grant on a great finish!

Engaged!

It's official! Brent and I are engaged to be married later this spring. Mark your calendars for June 7th and plan on being at the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Mitchell and Grant are excited about the wedding they are just not excited about moving to Chandler, AZ. I'm sure they will adjust and make new friends.

I Got a Vacuum!

Saturday, February 9th, evening time....

Brent came over to my house to celebrate my birthday. He brought a huge box containing the latest vacuum craze - an iRobot Vacuum! It can clean the whole house without me having to do anything. I can even have it clean my house when I’m not home! Pretty sweet! Don’t be jealous!
Hidden in the box; however, was a RING!!! Hmmmmm….something to think about.

Basketball Season Begins!

Grant's basketball team, The Suns, had their opening game yesterday, Saturday, January 12th. Grant's basketball skills have improved tremendously since last year. He made 4 points in the game and made one steal. His team consists of 9 and 10 year old boys. Several of the boys had played on teams before and had great ball handling skills. Unfortunately, they were no match for "The Blue" team who had two players who made 70% of every shot they took. Although this game will go down as a defeat, The Suns are poised for a great season!

Going to Alabama!

On New Year's Eve, Brent and I boarded a 6:15am flight to start our trip to Huntsville, Alabama. Our goal was to spend some time visiting Brent's brother Neil and his family. The original plan for our trip was to fly from Phoenix to Dallas and then board a 1:05pm flight from Dallas to Huntsville. Unfortunately, while we were in Dallas eating a tastey lunch at TGI Fridays, we received notice that our 1:05 pm flight was canceled and we would have to go on the 6:30pm flight. That would mean we would be spending many, many hours at the Dallas airport. To avoid a long stay at the airport, the American Airlines reservation specialist arranged for us to leave Dallas at noon, fly to Cincinnati, Ohio, transfer to a Delta plane, and then fly into Huntsville, Alabama. This would allow us to arrive in Huntsville by 5pm. We agreed to the change and were anxious to arrive at our final destination. Although we were excited to ring in the New Year in Huntsville, the airlines "misplaced" our luggage in one of the cities we had traveled to (and they didn't know which one), so for the next 24 hours we were luggage-less. This is how our wonderful adventure began! Don't worry, the rest of the story is fabulous!
